What is Vegetarian Diet?

Vegetarianism (also vegetarian diet) is the practice of not eating meat including red meat, chicken, fish, and other animal flesh, or byproducts from animal slaughter.

Vegetarian diets are classified into three types: ovo-lacto vegetarian, ovo-vegetarian, and lacto-vegetarian. Lacto-vegetarians consume dairy but not eggs, whereas ovo-vegetarians consume both dairy and eggs. 

Vegetarianism is practiced for a number of different reasons. Health, politics, the environment, culture, aesthetics, economics, and personal taste are some of the other reasons for being a vegetarian. Worries about animal welfare or the use of antibiotics and hormones in animals, or a desire to consume food without depleting natural resources could also the reason in opting to vegetarian diet.


WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE VEGETARIAN DIET?

Many people for instance, refuse to consume meat because they believe sentient life is precious. Many religious systems and animal welfare organizations have codified such ethical problems.

Some of religions do not or at least limit the consumption of red meat because of how they give value to their beliefs. Spiritual contexts believes that these animals have the right to live and has spiritual being living in it.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF VEGETARIAN DIET?

Adequately planned vegetarian diets, particularly totally vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally sufficient, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases.


So, being vegetarian is indeed based on someone's preference. For most of us who consume meat, we think how difficult it is to abstain from consuming them. However, on the other side, it has also a positive effect to human health.

Well, being vegetarian is nevertheless, a very good diet form for those who want to be fit and slim.
